WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Saturday's temperatures will hit the mid-80s. Humidity will remain at bay but it will still feel a bit sticky.
  • Sunday will be hotter and humid with highs near 90 degrees. There's a chance of a stray shower or storm.
  • A cooldown is expected next week with highs in the upper 70s. Lows in the 60s.

TRACKING THE TROPICS:

  • Hurricane Erin continues its western path north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico. It is forecast to become major Category 3 hurricane by Sunday.
  • The northern Leeward islands, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands should be monitored closely for potentially heavy rainfall, high surf, rip currents and tropical force winds.
  • There's still a lot of uncertainty on the exact path early next week, but most of the models are Erin steering away from the East Coast of the U.S. This storm can bring dangerous rip currents and large waves even to our Long Island Sound beaches.
