Officials: Cat rescued from house fire in Shelton

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the front door and garage. They also discovered heavy fire in the basement.

A cat was rescued from a Shelton home following a fire Saturday morning, officials say.
It happened around 9:40 a.m. on Maler Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the front door and garage. They also discovered heavy fire in the basement.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire in 15 minutes.
During their search of the home, firefighters found a cat in the basement who was conscious and alert.
One person was able to exit the home uninjured.
Officials say the home has been deemed uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire is unclear.
