A retired Beacon police officer was charged in connection with a deadly shooting.
"It's outrageous, it's shocking," says Beacon resident Addison Goodson.
It happened around 9 p.m. Monday on Rombout Avenue.
Officials say it started with a 911 call from retired Police Officer Edison Irizarry.
He told them he just shot his roommate, according to New York State Police.
When officers went inside the home, a 58-year-old man named Casey Cuddy was found dead.
"It actually makes me want to cry, I'm shocked. Like I said, people around here are very friendly, friendly towards each other and very giving," says Beacon resident Stephanie Macaluso.
Irizarry is charged with a handful of crimes, including murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.
News 12 was told he pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday and was remanded to the Dutchess County jail. He is due back in court July 25.
There's still no word on a possible motive.
Neighbors are surprised to hear about the gun violence.
"It's a very quiet street, very neighborly so it's way out of the usual," says Marlowe Stern, who lives in Beacon.
