The family of a father who police say was hit and killed in a DWI crash in East Flatbush are calling his death "a great loss."
News 12 previously reported that police said a van fatally struck Fausto Diaz Thursday just after 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of East 55th Street and Church Avenue in East Flatbush.
He was taken to Brookdale Hospital but did not survive.
Police say the driver, 58-year-old Winston Reid, of Queens, stayed at the scene and was taken into custody shortly after.
He now faces several charges, including vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and driving while ability impaired, according to police.
A growing memorial for Diaz sits at the intersection where he died.
News 12 spoke exclusively with Fausto's twin brother Jose Diaz on Saturday. He said Fausto came to America to support his two daughters who live in Mexico. Jose said Fausto was on his way home from work when the van hit him.
"He was a good person going home to his job. He would go to work and go straight home. He was dedicated to his job, to both his daughters he left behind in Mexico," Jose Diaz said.
He added that the loss has had a devastating impact on the rest of the family.
“Well, I would tell him that I love him, because despite everything, heis my brother and my twin. We are twins and right now I feel my heart is not there, it is not complete because I lost a brother whom I truly loved," Jose Diaz said.
He also said while nothing can bring his brother back, he wants justice.
“I know my brother is not going to be brought back. And let’s hope that person pays for what they did," he added.
